OPIUM POPPIES

Driving from northern Tasmania to the south of the state a few days ago I was amazed at the number of acres of opium poppies under cultivation. They were all in full flower which looked spectacular. I kept meaning to stop for photo opportunities....... then I remembered that I had taken this photo of a rogue poppy and seed heads in a friends garden last year.

The variety of Australian birds and their stunning colours never ceases to amaze me. I took this photo of a crimson rosella at my brother's place on the south coast of NSW.

UNDERNEATH THE ARCHES........

Friends can be so inspirational...wondering what photography project to start next I was at a bit of a loss...my good friend Steph suggested the beauty of arches. So now my eyes are darting everywhere looking for that arch that makes you go mmmmmmm. This one is in Surrey hills, Sydney.

Flying High and Laying Low

I was lucky recently to be invited to Leonie's house in Maldon (Central Victoria). She has been an Antique collector and trader for many years and her house is a virtual wonderland of stunning ceramics, furniture, kitchen items, textiles and many other quirky collectables. Being a bit of a bird nut my eyes were drawn to the flying kookaburra's on the wall. I have seen plenty of flying ducks but never our laughing friends. Leonie says they are very rare and hail from the 1940's.

RETRO GARDEN

"Retro Garden"
This print is the first of a series of screen-prints I am doing on linen. I was inspired by the amazing artist
                                http://www.angielewin.co.uk/
Being a child of the 50's and 60's I have always loved the designs and colour schemes of those eras so my up coming work will be a reflection of this.

Scooter Girl !!

It's amazing how computers can bring people together. About 5 years ago my mother emailed US West-coast artist Pauline Lazzarini expressing appreciation of her work. They have since written to each other practically every day sharing ideas, constructive criticism and tit bits of day to day life matters. Like my mother Pauline is prolific in her production of art. She creates wonderful whimsical paintings. To see more of her work check out her website.  paulinesart.com

Heidi

My mother, Norma Larsen, loves to paint Portraits. This one is of her neighbour Heidi. She has captured her wild red hair beautifully.

BIG BAD BEAUTIFUL BISON BOY

What a magnificent beast the bison is. We came across a small herd just outside a magical town called Jackson Hole in Wyoming. There is nothing hole-like about this town!! It is full of wonderful art, creative people and delicious food. Will definitely return some day.

Nashville Neon

Nothing like a bit of neon to brighten up ones life and Nashville has plenty of that.......when the sun goes down.... the lights go up and the music starts rocking!! The streets are filled with saloon bars with a great mix of music, colourful characters and great visuals. A cool place to visit if your ever in Tennessee.

Pencil alphabet

Dalton ghetti is a totally amazing pencil sculptor. To be able to create these wonderful minature works of art on the tip of a graphite pencil astounds me. He apparently uses only 3 tools ...a razor blade, a sewing needle and a small sculpting knife and never sells his works but gives them away to friends. Oh to be a friend of his!!

EUREKA!!

I have just been visiting Eureka Springs in northern Arkansas.....an incredibly charming town built in a steep ravine...its buildings date back to the Victorian era and if you close your eyes you can imagine scenes of saloon bars and dancing gals. I took these photos in the back streets.

I have just been visiting Winfield Kansas, domain of Dorothy and the yellow brick road and the Walnut Valley music festival......I found this mural on a back street. It was apparently done by a local teacher.

Ring Ring..... Why don't you give me a call???

Vintage, antique and collectable shops are a blow out in America. Talk about packed with eye candy not to mention the memories they provoke. I am having a lovely time browsing my way through Kansas at the moment. Currently in a wonderful town called Winfield.

HANGING OUT IN BRISBANE

I recently spent the day checking out Brisbane (which is in Queensland on the east coast of Australia)......having never been there before I was pleasantly surprised by the hip and quirky nature of the place. Lots of unique shops, vintage finds, interesting architecture and a few back alleys adorned with street art. I am sure there is a lot more of all of the above so hopefully I will return sometime to explore the city further.

STRANGE CRITTERS

We sure do have some strange critters in Australia.
This dragon Lizard was crossing our road the other day...taking his time, with no fear of traffic conditions...lucky I was there to stop the cars for him!!!
